Feeding the Ducks

Thursday 18th March

This week we collected lots of acorns from the old oak tree. We got them to feed to the ducks at the duck pond in town.

This morning Rooms 1, 3 and 7 walked down to the duck pond to feed the ducks. We wore our yellow safety vests. Parents and grandparents came to help us. We took a shortcut along the grassy track. It was a long walk but it was fun.

We fed the ducks acorns and bread. We stamped on some acorns to crack them open to make it easier for the ducks to eat them. Then we sat on the grassy bank and watched and watched and watched.

The ducks didn't want to come out of the pond but seagulls came to eat the bread. We only saw 3 ducks eat the acorns. Then they went back in the pond.

We think maybe they weren't hungry or were scared of us in our bright vests.
We left all the acorns in a pile by the pond for the ducks to eat later. Then we walked back to school along the grassy track.
It was a fun morning.
